William Lindsey :toad: on Nostr: The US Thanksgiving holiday and Christmas melded together as I was growing up, ...
The US Thanksgiving holiday and Christmas melded together as I was growing up, because the rule of thumb passed down in my family was that fruitcakes — and important part of the Christmas table — had to be baked before Thanksgiving in order to "ripen" properly by Christmas time.
My maternal grandmother was the fruitcake baker in our family. In continuing this tradition, I keep her memory alive. She would put her cakes into a tightly sealed tin after baking.
