Hiking Cowlitz divide, part 4. The forest gives way to subalpine meadows at about 5,000 feet (1500 Meters). This is part of the Wonderland trail that circumnavigates the mountain: in its entirety it's a 90 mile (145 km) loop. I'm impressed by how well people are staying on the trail here. A little earlier in the year and this meadow is covered in purple asters; next month, the huckleberry foliage will be bright red.
