Last night was “opening night” for the christmas lights on 37th Street. I lived there from ’92 to ’97, and was a part of the fun back then.
A guy named Ross is making a documentary about it, found some of my photos on Flickr (https://www.flickr.com/photos/adamrice/tags/37thstreet) and got in touch with me through that.
He invited me to come down to opening night so he could get some footage of me meeting the current “mayor” of 37th St, Robert, so I did. There was a marching band playing, and motor traffic had been blocked from the street, which was a huge improvement.
The original instigators no longer live there, and the center of gravity has moved toward the west end of the street. It was fun.
