The problem is the voltage from the rechargeable batteries is lower (1.2V for NiMH vs 1.5 for Alkaline), and it throws off the light's logic for detecting that the battery is getting weak, and it cuts off when you still have a good charge. This was especially true in the devices that take 3 batteries, rather than 4.",
