TIL in 1982, Universal sued Nintendo, alleging that “Donkey Kong” infringed on “King Kong.” Universal lost that battle as they previously argued seven years prior that King Kong was in the public domain in another court battle. (Universal paid Nintendo’s legal fees.)
Anyway, now Nintendo and Universal co-produce films together, and there’s even an upcoming Donkey Kong area in Universal parks in Japan and the US.
