🚨 WHATSAPP ALERT: ISRAELI SPYWARE TARGETS JOURNALISTS & CIVILIANS
WhatsApp has confirmed that an Israeli spyware firm, Paragon Solutions, attempted to hack journalists and civil society members across more than two dozen countries, particularly in Europe.
The attack used malicious PDFs in group chats to infiltrate devices.
WhatsApp has since disrupted the attack vector and issued cease-and-desist letters to the company.
Citizen Lab warns that such spyware can silently activate microphones, cameras, and steal encrypted messages.
This follows a 2019 lawsuit where WhatsApp sued NSO Group for similar hacks.
Experts say stronger regulations are needed to stop the unchecked growth of surveillance tech.
