What Matt’s describing here is basically Mr. Plumbean in “The Big Orange Splot,”one of my favorite books I read to my daughter at night now.

Dude lives on a boring street where all the houses are the same, then one day he gets paint dropped on his and he keeps making it crazier and crazier. The neighbors are upset at first, but then the whole street follows.
