It's exciting for me to think about how we can/need to approach the neuroscience of subjective experiences (like feelings and emotions) in a different way than things we can more objectively measure (like memory performance). Ala: No one knows how happy you are but you.
It requires a good dash of philosophy of science and a good high-level rethink of the type: What do we really want to know and what series of inferences might we make to get there?
It's thrilling and risky all at once. A big part of what is enabling me to stick my neck out with this is the security of my position (and this terrific award). Together those are pushing me to places I never thought or dreamed to go.
