Is she an adult? That certainly would complicate things. I really don't know what would be available in the UK. Perhaps someone from there would know. The child living with her is obviously concerning. Whatever you do, be prepared for her to hate you for it, at least at first.
Hopefully once the rest of the UK Spinsters wake up, they will have better advice for you.
