They did indeed know. I was teaching Environmental Studies as an assistant in the late 70s and I knew. I disagree that we as individuals are not responsible to a large extent. Everybody knows now, but still responses range from fingers in the ears to hypocrites like myself still eating meat and dairy to the few who have led by good example.got on the streets and tried, in vain it seems to me, to wake the rest of us up.
