R. C. Sproul on inflation:
God instituted in the nation of Israel a law against the debasing of currency. In the ancient world, where gold and silver were used as a medium of exchange, sometimes unscrupulous people would “clip" a coin; they would clip off a tiny piece of gold from a gold coin and keep it for themselves. The result was that a coin of a certain face value, say, one hundred dollars, no longer contained one hundred dollars’ worth of gold. This was seen by God as a serious sin because it defrauded people in the enterprise of exchanging goods and services. So the biblical law against the debasement of currency is extremely clear and strong.
