I've learned that often when people complain that a game has 'bad controls' what they mean is 'controls that aren't immediately easy to use' as in. it takes some practice to use them

that doesn't actually mean they're bad, or even that they're impossible or even difficult to learn, it's just that you won't be mastering them immediately

the two big ones I've seen lately are mario kart super circuit and original arcade mario bros., both games I love and have practiced and enjoy the controls of, I think both are a lot of fun and have a lot going for them if you're okay with a learning curve to the controls

I think it's okay for games sometimes to make you learn how to play them through practice and feeling out how they work, like learning to plan the slow jumps of mario bros. in advance, or learning how to use jumping to better control the trajectory of your turns in super circuit, I think that's cool and good actually, I don't think games need always to be immediately intuitive
