The U.S. Commerce Department has banned Chinese AI model DeepSeek from government-issued devices, citing data security risks.
Employees were warned not to download, access, or interact with the AI system on government networks.
The move follows growing concerns in Washington over DeepSeek’s potential to leak sensitive data to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Several states—including Texas, New York, and Virginia—have already barred DeepSeek from official devices, and 21 state attorneys general are urging Congress to legislate a federal ban.
