I read Fatherland (Robert Harris) when it was first published. Left an impression! An alternative history set in the '60s, where Nazi Germany had won & sued for peace with the US and later reached a detente with President Joseph Kennedy. A world where aged leaders, grandfathers of the nations, now sanitised, mellowed, & kindly, in civilian clothes, had erased genocides & cowed populations. But the invisible atrocities & persecution of the usual scapegoats continued
Lucky that never happened! 🙄
