Re aphantasia: I always took it literally, and thought it meant "lack of imagination", where obviously I have a very prolific imagination.
What I don't really have is visualisation ability. I can somewhat picture things, but only very vaguely. It's the same thing that made me fail all spatial math in school, which used visual methods instead of formula.
I suspect that's why I like to write in the first person, since when I imagine a scene, I "experience" it instead of picturing it.
