Today this is easier than ever with software available on computers, tablets and phones but when I started making images it was all done in the camera or darkroom.
The manipulation of the image may be to remove an unsightly object, correct a defect, crop and balance, correct colour shifts, place items in or out of focus, stack hundreds of images into one, or generate a more artistic effect. The software packages for these and many more are available. Some of the more sophisticated packages include “Lightroom” and “Photoshop”.
Some diehards may think manipulating an image is sacrilegious but I am of the opinion that your camera is simply your paint brush, a tool, which you use in the creation of your interpretation of the final image
