Here in the US, school runs from Monday through Friday. Millions of students are conditioned to feel that a five-day week is normal and two days a week are days off. It isn't until later that we realized that somebody must do all the work that gets done on Saturday and Sunday. The weekend, as we call it, isn't happy, relaxing time for everyone. My last job before I retired for real, required me to regularly work 18-20 days at a time without a day off, and at odd hours. Curiously, even though I'm retired, I observed the five-day work week and two-day weekend, I just do it all in my head ;).
