Three Aphorisms for a Saturday afternoon
First-
The Truth is a set of solutions for being in the world. Like all solutions, the most elegant are often the most fertile... and the most effective.
The question naturally becomes: effective at what?
Second-
The Truth can be made so incompatible that to understand it is to remove yourself from the world.
Third-
Tyrannical systems are inherently unstable because their Truths are manifestly unjust. They do bad things to people and in so doing produce victims who harbor resentment and bad blood toward them.
Totalitarian systems are more resilient and insidious because their Truths are implicitly unjust. They facilitate our doing bad things to ourselves and to each other and in so doing produce accomplices who are grateful to be relieved of the burden of their own accountability.
