The reason its slangy to replace desu with da in Japanese is because da is Korean. And the postwar era Japanese underworld had a heck of a lot of Korean immigrants. Part of that was wartime collaborators, and part of that was Korean Civil War refugees. They faced discrimination similar to how people from Latin America do in the US. And struggled to make a living without having a hustle. So a lot of Japanese slang has Korean origins in a similar manner to how American slang is primarily from AAVE.
