Well, looks like it was a slip-strike rather than subduction, so no tsunami today. But I'm always glad for a chance to practice & review evacuating with my go bag.

I was mid coffee-making when the alert sounded, so I gradually acquired a caffiene-deprivation hangover while sitting in the hilltop park. Mitigation: caffiene tablets in med pouch of go bag.

There wasn't really anywhere comforable to sit for a while at the top of that hill, just the cold ground or rocks. Evacuating can mean a whole lot of sitting and waiting. Be as comfortable as possible. Mitigation: put inflatable sit-pad in go bag, leave camping chairs in trunk of car.

We lost cell service part way up the hill. We couldn't contact friends and had to navigate based on personal local knowledge. Communication is important for hearing public safety updates. Personal communication also matters for my peace of mind and that of distant firends/family. Maps useful for navigation; important for decision-making.

Mitigations: 1. Offline maps on phone. 2. Standalone GPS/maps device in go bag. 3. Paper maps. 4. Active messaging plan on satellite messenger. 5. Small emergency-bands radio.

Bonus mitigations to investigate. 6. Large antenna for cellular hotspot/booster. 7. Handheld radio with emergency bands, local public safety, transmit capability. 8. Find/build local radio-to-email gateway.
