Default toast compression is PGLZ but lz4 was added in 14
Lz4 gives around 5%~10% worse ratios but is over twice as fast.
Unless you want to use something like zstd for disk there's little reason to go through the hassle of disabling toast compression all together (IIRC can only be set at compile time) as lz4 in ZFS will quickly see the already compressed data isn't worth compressing so it won't even try.
Setting it to lz4 should work about as well as not setting it at all and using lz4 in ZFS.
