Look, if you can't tell the difference between RATE OF CHANGE and TOTAL EMISSIONS over a long period of time, then there's no helping you. Your "gotcha" proves my point, and proves that you simply have no idea what you are talking about.

Let's just make up numbers for the sake of argument. Let's say that humanity is, on average, releasing a ton of CO2 per hour. Let's also say that a large volcanic eruption lasts for 3 hours and releases 3 tons of CO2. This satisfies the statement made by the article. During those 3 hours, the eruption is matching the rate of human emissions, so both have released 3 tons of CO2, each. Over the span of a day, humanity will have released 24 tons of CO2, while the volcano has still released 3 tons. Over a week, humanity will have released 168 tons of CO2, while the volcano has still only released 3 tons.
