I'm fine with telemetry so long as it is done in a privacy respecting way. I think KDE's approach to this, with the slider and such is the best way to implement it.
I also would argue for opt-out telemetry (choice given at install or first boot). This will ensure a more representative dataset.
Just my thoughts on it. Telemetry is a great way to know what to improve, it just should be done right.
