the idea of doing shadowboxes of memorabilia from different events, villages, talks, etc for each year is one that I've seen echo'd a few times in this conversation.
Another is making a living quilt of DEF CON swag like t-shirts and hoodies. both of which could be set up for display, maybe you have a special area that is reserved as the "DEF CON Museum" that people can browse through. I know at a previous DC (I think it was DC30) there was a similar "Badge" museum, not sure if that was official or not.
