I had a phase when I was extremely tribal in my associations and my worldview, around my feminism. Then after many years of this (I even lived on womyn's land), I decided I didn't want to divide the world into "us and them" anymore and reject everyone who wasn't "us." I now have casual associations with all kinds of conservative people who I don't agree with on many things, and I don't put up this wall against them as being "other." I even express curiousity on why they hold certain views. This is one reason why I have hesitated to simply write off people who subscribe to the ideology, through belief or ignorance. But maybe this issue is different, because it really is a cult. And maybe it's not a matter of disagreeing with people, it's that I can't take the toxicity of the cult.
