"AI companies are building AI models by treating many workers like machines. Training these models requires enormous amounts of data, and much of that data is cleaned and annotated by humans. Tech companies leverage the economic disparities between regions and this work is often outsourced to workers in the Global South including Syria, Argentina and Kenya, where workers are paid less than USD 1.50 per hour, with little job security, no protections for workers rights."
