There is almost nothing in common between the USSR and the modern US Communist party.
Let's decide which one you want to be considered the real communism:
Imperialist dictatorship that has all its people working for the same pay on government factories, genocides the native populations of occupied countries, and sends all criticizers to labor camps.
Democratic state that enforces rights for people of color and LGBT, provides free healthcare, environmental protections, worker protections and minimum wage, taxes the rich (important to not let people like Musk gain too much power, because they then use it to buy the government).
Socialism/communism are such broad terms, that even Hitler called his party the real socialists. It is often used to get the the average working class people to support an authoritarian regime.
So my point is, these are so different that I can support one kind of self-proclaimed communists, but not support the other kind
