"aspirational polygons"...in 1993, I was working with GIS 3d models...TINs...surfaces of interpolated triangles contructed between 3d points...then shaded based on a single point light source...it took facking WEEKS to run the preparation steps on a nice workstation and then we had to send to run for more weeks of shading on a VAX system. After about 3 months, we recieved a single, shaded image.
So yeah, "aspirational polygons"! All happens at 60FPS now!
