This is what I sent HEB:
Good afternoon, I am a X generation Texan and have been shopping at HEB since I can remember. As you guys know obesity, cancer, and autoimmune diseases are a huge problem in this country and it’s very apparent when you go into one of your stores. I’m a bit confused why your HEB products contain the same if not worse ingredients than the products offered by huge corporations. It seems as though you guys have a wonderful opportunity to source high quality products locally and within the U.S. to offer your customers high quality alternatives to the Doritos, Cheetos, and other massive conglomerates of this world. Your bakery is a great example. Bread consists of water, salt, and flour yet when I look at the back of your bread / tortillas made in the store it contains ingredients that belong in a science lab. I also noticed your cubed cheese contains a “bioengineered food.”
Grocery stores should be proud in their customers health and well being and began focusing on local communities.
If you wish to maximize profits at the expense of your customers then your short term may look good but long term you’ll continue to have sicker and sicker customers. Maybe HEB doesn’t care like every other huge company replacing good ingredients with cheap, seed oils and bioengineered foods.
Time will tell. Good luck.
