This is a pretty interesting study that sheds light on the genetic aspect: sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/03/150318145420.htm
It turns out even the most Anglo-Saxon/Scandinavian areas never exceed 40% admixture. England is primarily Brythonic Celt in stock.
Interestingly West Yorkshire is an enclave for one of the oldest genetically distinct groups, perhaps the remnant of the kingdom of Elmet.
Of note also is that the remaining explicit Celtic groups of the isles are less related to each other than they are to the A-S settlers, good ammo against arguments denying any British people; that we were a mongrelization of immigrants. We're so related to others in our north western area that we can't even parse out Vikings from Cornish without a fine scale study.
