It's also a security measure for things like: Not giving potential attackers access to data from millions of users, and secondly, to not give the owner of the platform itself access to data from millions of users.
I feel the onboarding process should inform the user of the existence of other instances,maybe explain decentralization too, since many don't understand why it's there.
