A story, for no particular reason. Very many years ago, I was building a filtered line-powered DC power supply, based a design supplied by an EE relative. The filtering portion of the circuit included a pair of electrolytic capacitors, which I apparently wired in backwards. My VOM was showing no output, so I walked across the room to unplug my gadget—and that was just as well, because while I was across the room one of the capacitors exploded. I never found all the pieces of the metal casing…
