Thanks for the replies: I'm aware that the latest standard for C includes features that are not in the latest standard for C++ (e.g., an empty parameter list in C means the function accepts any args while in C++ it means the function takes no args), but C++ was originally a strict superset of the-C-of-the-time, and after trying to learn Rust a couple of times and given up because of its complexity, I think/hope there's a useful smaller language buried inside it.
