5/ Hitchcock’s east ridge takes an approximate lifetime to trudge up loose sand and rock but getting to Discovery pinnacle (13,753 feet) is worth the views of Hitchcock lakes, Mount Hitchcock, and your destination Mount Whitney (if you zoom in you can see the summit hut to the right of Mount Muir’s peak). The walk down its north ridge to Trail Crest is awesome. Third time over this route for me now.
