"content": "Martin Weisskopf began working on studying the polarization of X-ray light from astronomical objects in 1969 (~50 years before IXPE's launch).\n\nIn 1975, they were able to put an X-ray polarimeter on the OSO-8 solar satellite, and managed to get a 20 sigma result for the Crab nebula, confirming the synchrotron nature of the emission.
