PSA for #Linux #Laptop owners:
If your laptop has stopped sleeping properly (appears to sleep, depletes the battery), recent kernels seem to have changed the default mem_sleep setting in some circumstances from "deep" (ACPI S3) to "s2idle" (S0ix/Modern Standby) which often doesn't work properly. Check /sys/power/mem_sleep and change the default (shown in [brackets]) by adding this to your kernel commandline then reboot:
mem_sleep_default=deep
Insights on why/how this happened are welcomed.
