The intersection of American politics and the depravity of killing is difficult to digest, but we've spent decades desensitizing ourselves to what's going on in the rest of the world.
I'm guilty of this and I struggle with a family that's fully on board with dehumanizing the Enemy—a malleable concept, but always easily retooled to the Other. I have nothing of value to add; just thank you for writing.
