There are large swathes of human history for which we don't have useful secondary sources, and it wouldn't surprise me if another one happens, especially given how dependent we are on technology these days and how fragile that infrastructure is.

I think that assuming we'll always have intellectual progress and the means to record our thoughts for posterity is falling victim to the myth of progress.
