In my experience, there is a simple and *ironclad* formula of prerequisites for a trans person in denial to realize they're trans:
1. Basic knowledge of what it actually means to be trans.
2. A basic level of perceived safety, even if it's only in part of their life.
3. At least one coping mechanism overloading or failing completely.
Without all three, a trans person in denial will not realize who they are, no matter what you try.
All you can do is try to foster whatever of 1 or 2 is missing.
