But we had to negotiate exactly where her sleeping spot is several times, so this is what the routine looks like now: she comes in the sliding glass door, hops on the couch, and hops from there to the handle on the adhd-kid trampoline that’s still sitting there because we all have adhd. Then I can slip a hand under her claws and pick her up. I walk her *six feet* away and put her in a dog crate on the counter, which is the exact same height as the trampoline handle. She could do this herself, she’s perfectly capable, but that’s not *the routine.* The Routine is couch to bar, then carried to bed. Then we stand there making contented chicken noises at each other, and then she can sleep. Chickens *love* a routine.
