I like how in fantasy open worlds, if you whistle for your horse, it's always right there. Doesn't matter if you just scaled a sheer cliff, flew across a canyon or teleported to another continent.

This implies that your horse is just as good of an adventurer as you are, maybe better, has a wingsuit, some climbing gear, and maybe even a spell or two and is sighing heavily as it wonders how it got roped into carrying you around when your little adventurer footsies get sore.
