It's humbling and terrifying to see people who were once good godly examples fall away from the faith and become completely different people. I know from personal experience that this walk gets harder the longer I'm on it, not because my convictions have changed, but it's like God expects you to grow up and take responsibility for things that were once easy. Eventually, the training wheels have to come off, and depending on whether you took the seasons graces for granted or not, the transition will be more or less difficult. I think about this a lot, especially because rooted sins set you back and make it that much more difficult to stay on track. Once you're off the tracks, it's easier to justify staying comfortable than to continue striving, but you lose the closeness, the zeal, the peace, and the reward.
