Many years ago, the Przewozy Regionalne train operator (then the main operator of suburban lines in PoznaĆ area) experimented with extended connections on the #Leszno â PoznaĆ â #Gniezno route. They've soon disappeared.
Later, when PoznaĆ Metropolitan Railway was created, a single "spoke" (named as the bicycle wheel part) PKM 1 connected KoĆcian (a town part way to Leszno) with Gniezno. Although #KolejeWielkopolskie (the current major operator in PoznaĆ area) ran some "connected" trains, not a single one runs from KoĆcian to Gniezno.
But do not fret â mid-July KW are planning to introduce a single "direct" connection from Leszno to Gniezno. Except that it isn't going to go through PoznaĆ (120 km, roughly 2 hours), but through Krotoszyn and Jarocin (170 km, 3 hours 30 minutes).
The route is partially electrified, but that probably won't be a problem, because at the same time the Krotoszyn â KoĆșmin Wielkopolski section is going to be closed for maintenance, and replacement bus service is going to run. So most likely there will be a railbus going to Krotoszyn, and from there a road bus will deliver the passengers to an electric multiple unit. Almost like a hybrid.
