When you design and build hardware that respects user freedom, the environmental impact is an afterthought as freedom respecting hardware is designed to last and be sustainable, people wants to use hardware for as long as possible rather than having to upgrade because proprietary scum forces you to use the latest slop that requires tens of thousands of times more bytes to run and a dozen times faster CPU to be usable, on top of new proprietary evil schemes to be supported. There's been no worse impact to the environment in the last decade than FAGMAN enforcing TPM, EFI, etc.
