I have a little experience with FA-15s and a JR-2 (both belonging to friends' children—I did restringing and cleanup). Intonation was OK on the Yamaha and one of the Fenders; fretwork and overall tone of the JR-2 were much better. (Or, perhaps more accurately, the FA-15s sounded dead and one needed some fret/nut work).
Of course, as luck would have it, the kid with the really-not-great FA-15? So far she's still playing! The other two have apparently switched to other interests.
