This currently sucks. Partly because format incompatibilities, mostly because instances impose 'arbitrary' limits (to keep hosting costs down, understandable).
I'd love tusky or anything to upload vids elsewhere, embed the link, so I can share longer, heavier vids in my mastodon transparatly.
Is that in scope? What would be needed?
