The problem was with the LaTeX rendering engine I built in madblog - it generated `<img>` tags with an `alt` attribute with the Unicode-rendered formula that could break the XML encoding in case of non-standard characters.
I'll try and find a solution eventually without giving up on the `alt` attribute, which is especially helpful for vision-impaired users - LaTeX formulas rendered as `<img>` aren't very a11y-friendly without `alt`.
