If #bitcoin can't scale to at least two to four billion people without sacrificing self-sovereignty, it will have failed as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system.
It may still become the ultimate store of value and even the global reserve currency of the future, and we may all get rich in the monetisation process, but it will have failed at what it was intended to do.
It may have solved an important problem of centralised money creation, but it won't empower individuals in the way it was intended.
I hope we will find solutions to the hard problems in front of us.
