John Wehrle (v2) on Nostr: My mom worried about the draft being reinstated while I was in the drafting age range ...
My mom worried about the draft being reinstated while I was in the drafting age range because she'd lived through a time when the draft was going.
My grandparents were frugal to a fault because they lived through the Great Depression.
But my mom isn't.
The major events you don't personally remember receive less of your concern than the ones you do.
But that's a temporal bias.
It IS possible for there to be another Great Depression. It IS possible for the draft to be reinstated. It IS possible for civil rights to be fully turned back 150 years or more.
People just expect that moral progress is inevitable but there's nothing inevitable about it.
Moral progress is bought and paid for with blood and sweat and compromise and coalitions and sacrifices.
Don't sit there complaining to me about how our nation hasn't been making moral progress fast enough.
Don't "wait on the world to change" - get off your ass and change the world with us.
