That really is an excellent distillation of the facts of the matter. I'm not a hater, I had fun with the game, it's just that it pales in comparison to even something like Twilight Princess. Aside from its character narratives, it should have been easy to run roughshod over in terms of production and score
Being the only then current generation Zelda game on a new console, it enjoyed a perfect storm of portability, better graphics, an improvement to the gameplay loop, and so on. Even with all of those, they managed to slip what made Zelda so effective: theme, setting, score, but most of all direction
Aimlessness doesn't lend itself too well to Zelda, getting the "destroy Calamity Ganon" questline is on the nose for any Zelda game. It's like Megaman, you always know that bastard Dr. Wily is going to be responsible somehow. It's how it's presented that really felt lame
It's at best a 6/10, not a 10/10
p.s., Jim Sterling is indeed a total faggot
